Lighting a candle at home instantly creates warmth, relaxation and that cosy Scandinavian feeling we know as ‘hygge’. It adds soft, gentle light and fills your space with calming or uplifting scents.
Different Types of Candle Wax
Many waxes are used in candles today: paraffin, beeswax, coconut wax, rapeseed wax, and soy wax. At The English Soap Company, we only use 100% pure soy wax — because it burns cleaner, longer, holds fragrance beautifully and is eco-friendly.
What Is Soy Wax Made From?
Soy wax is a plant-based wax made from
soybean oil.
Soybeans are cleaned, cracked, hulled and flaked, then pressed to extract oil. The oil goes through hydrogenation, which raises its melting point so it becomes solid at room temperature. The leftover hulls are used as animal feed.
Key Benefits of Soy Wax Candles
1. Natural & Plant‑Based
Unlike paraffin (made from petroleum), soy wax is completely natural.
2. Sustainable & Renewable
Soybeans are a renewable resource, and soy candles do not rely on fossil fuels.
3. Non‑Toxic & Clean Burning
Soy wax is non-toxic. Unlike paraffin, it does not release carcinogens when burned, and avoids harsh chemical fragrances that can cause headaches.
4. Better, More Natural Fragrance
Soy wax carries scent gently and naturally, without extra chemical boosters.
5. Longer Lasting & Cost‑Effective
Soy candles burn approximately 50% longer than paraffin candles, making them more economical.
How to Use & Care for Soy Wax Candles
Soy candles are more delicate than paraffin ones:
- Keep them away from direct sunlight or strong light to prevent fading or discoloration.
- Store at room temperature — soy wax has a low melting point and may soften above 25°C.
- If melting occurs, move the candle to a cooler area.
